Recall a vague and fading past
Before each turned to flee in fear
I used to be amongst the real.
I took too many
Only the lost now seek a refuge
For I am chained here
Apart from those whom I may touch
Afraid I may
Turn their golden feathers
To an ashen grey.
So this is my curse?
I could gaze forever
Into my own soul, or a lonely sky
Yet I see them flock
And gather at my feet.
How curious this bleeding
Intrigued by quiet cawing
Do they suffer?
So far removed from the warmth of flesh;
A distant sense of emotion.
Examine remains;
Try to remember
How it feels
Can't remember how long it took Maybe 15 hours? I took this one nice and slowly though. Fully digital painting, done in Photoshop from scratch; very enjoyable to paint. I might tweak it a bit more, but I quite like it as it is at the moment. It's a window unto my mind; and imperfect as such...
I think it's amazing... There are bits that aren't perfect, but I'm not going to say what they are, because I think you should leave everything the way it is. It's a wonderful work.

The detail of this is just insane. This is one of those pieces that just leave me breathless. Amazing!

"There exist only three beings worthy of respect: the priest, the soldier, the poet. To know, to kill, to create."
Charles Baudelaire (1821 - 1867), Mon Coeur Mis a Nu, XXII
A window into your mind, albeit an imperfect one? I wish I knew what you meant by that. Your words reminded me of the lyrics of a Paul Simon song:
"And she said losing love
Is like a window in your heart,
Everybody sees you're blown apart..."
...although I'm not entirely sure why. And as for soul-gazing, I'd be wary of doing too much of that. I've never been entirely happy with what I've found.
PS. Deeply impressed by the skeletal birds. Fancy trying a humanoid skeleton at some point?
